Remove the battery compartment cover on the key fob (A). Using a thumb nail or flat-head screwdriver, prise upwards the cover and replace the CR2025 battery.

Dead Coin Battery

If your key fob has stopped working and you haven't been successful in reprogramming it using a new code, then the most likely culprit is a dead coin battery. You can replace this battery yourself in less than 10 minutes.

To change the battery in your seat ibiza replacement keys, flip it open from the non metal ringed side first. You can remove the clip-on lid with your nail. The key fob is protected by rubber seals, which should keep water out. The submersion of the keyfob could cause the seals on the keyfob to break and damage the electronic chip. This is the most likely scenario when your key fob is placed in the rain or accidentally drops into the pool. If your key fob doesn't function after replacing or reprogramming it or replacing the receiver module, it may be defective.

Water Damage

The key fob comes with rubber seals to stop water reaching the chip inside. However it's not enough to prevent the occasional splash or bath. If your pet been through a wash cycle or swimming in the ocean it may have damaged the chip.

It can be fixed by removing the battery, and then cleaning the chip with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Let it dry completely, then put it back. If the chip has become damaged, it will need to replace with a brand new one.

If your key fob still doesn't work after changing the battery and reprogramming it, there could be due to a problem with the receiver module. This is the part of your car that receives the signals from the keyfob, and then sends the signals to the key ignition system. If you have a spare key fob you can test it. It should trigger the ignition system light turn on and the central locking switch activate. If this does not occur then the receiver module could be defective. This is a costly repair but it can be fixed by an expert from your local garage.

Radio Interference

The receiver module inside your key could be causing interference. Seat parts can be used to provide an alternative key that comes with a new receiver.

To replace the battery, take off the key and gently lift the cover of the key fob's battery compartment by using your thumb or a screwdriver with a flat head. Remove the old CR2025 batteries and insert a fresh one, making sure that it is fitted with the correct orientation. You can also use a standard key with the transponder chip that was transferred from the damaged or worn key. This can be coded, and cut to fit your vehicle and, if required.

Faulty Receiver Module

The receiver module inside your key fob is what transmits radio signals to the car. The module could be faulty in the event that the fob stops working. This can be detected by using an OBDII scanner or by getting in touch with the dealer.

Other devices that operate on the same frequency could interfere with the remote keyless entry system. This includes mobile phones, electrical devices and even some household appliances.

If the fob is exposed clean tap water, it could be possible to clean the electronic chip using isopropyl alcohol and paper towels. If the fob's electronic chip has been submerged in salty or soapy water or sat for a long time on a wet surface, it is likely to be damaged and will need to be replaced.

To change the battery, use an incredibly small screwdriver with a flat-head or a fingernail for prying open the compartment for the button cell batteries (B). Remove the old battery and then insert the new CR2025, making sure that the "+" polarity is directed upwards.
